Designed by Bruce Millard
This extremely energy efficient North Idaho mountain home was originally designed to focus on the southern and western views, and the warmth of a southern exposure. The interior spaces are arranged to be both open and private, and adaptable to a changing family. Its home office, open loft, multi-use bathing facilities, large porches and separated garage create a home that is spatially efficient, flexible and healthy.
The construction is extremely durable, and sustainable, enclosing a home that wears in, not out. Materials include Rastra recycled foam insulating concrete form walls (ICF's) and structurally insulated roof panels (SIPS). The large timbers that protect the house from the demanding northern climate and support the gable porches and large overhangs are reused timbers recycled from an early 1900s mill building. Mountain Gable is truly a healthy, energy-efficient house that is part of the natural environment.
